Juno is a nine-year-old otter who lives at the Oregon Zoo. She was rescued as a pup and taken to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. But they were unable to match Juno with a foster mother, so she was deemed unreleasable and went to Oregon, where she shares quarters with other rescue otters who couldn't be released. In order to keep her front limbs exercised as they would be in the wild, zookeepers taught Juno to play basketball! Juno is still a young otter, but without proper exercise, they can develop arthritis. Her hoop dreams were kept under wraps for a few years in the otters' private pool, but recently the zoo maintenance staff built a custom basket so that the public can peek in on Juno's practice sessions.
