Guy Who Just Got Back from Toon Town

When your friend travels abroad on vacation, or even worse, lives in some other country for a semester as an exchange student or something, they come back a little different. They never pass up a chance to show you how it's done in ...wherever they went to. Yeah, we get it, you've broadened your horizons and learned a few things, but that doesn't make you an expert. Your friends will love to hear those stories for about a week and that's it. Besides, we've seen movies and we've read books, so your enlightenment isn't all that enlightening to the rest of us. 

Alasdair Beckett-King wanted to illustrate this behavior without pointing to any particular exotic destination, so he selected Toon Town. We've all seen the movies and we've all laughed our way through them, so there's an extra layer of ridiculousness in this demonstration. (via Geeks Are Sexy)

Why Are There No Mosquitoes at Disney World?

The worst mosquito tourist experience I know is Roanoke Island in North Carolina, and the best is at Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. But when you go to Disney World in Orlando, you're too busy having fun to notice the lack of mosquitoes. The theme park is built on a swamp in Florida, so what gives? Airlines always have trouble getting people to pay attention to the required safety instructions. Passengers have a tendency to zone out. Still, in the event of an emergency, it's crucial for these steps to be fresh in everyone's mind. Many airlines recruited their funniest flight attendants to give humorous monologues, and some produced videos filled with pop culture references to grab attention. Philippine Airlines goes a step further, and tells a story within a story while going over safety procedures.

Luisa faces a life crisis that will determine the rest of her life. Will she follow her mother's advice, and wear her seatbelt properly? Will Diego be arrested for vaping? Will Anton find the emergency exit after he causes a sudden drop in cabin pressure? You will be on the edge of your seat as the drama unfurls. How Airlines Transport Your Luggage

You probably travel with just carry-on luggage if you have to fly, because not only does checked baggage cost extra, there's a chance you may never see that baggage again in one piece. What do airlines do to cause all that damage? One commenter told of the time he received his clothing in a garbage bag at baggage claim. The explanation was that an airplane had run over his suitcase.

We are all familiar with the "What's the deal with airline food?" type of humor. It's just situational observation, but in the hands of a talented comedian, it goes over well.

After the Toronto plane crash, a TV station interviewed this guy about the trials of traveling. His stream-of-consciousness response was exactly what we are all thinking, but his honesty, sincerity, and comic timing are so spot on that you can't stop listening. He's not even trying to be funny, as far as I can tell. Kudos to the interviewer who just let him go on and on. (Thanks, Brother Bill!)

5 Ways British and American Road Trips Are Very Different

Laurence Brown of Lost in the Pond explains the difference between road trips in the US and road trips in the UK. I didn't even know people took road trips in the UK, but if you call the grand adventure of traveling 100 miles to visit someone a road trip, well, there you go. In America, we are liable to travel that far for lunch. My daughters now each live 450 miles from me, and not in the same direction, so I am used to spending 6 to 7 hours on the road by myself just to see one of them. They also travel to each other's homes, which is a much longer trip. When I was younger, I thought nothing of driving 12 hours to the east coast, or 18 to Florida. There's a one-minute skippable ad at 1:45.

They also drive the other person crazy. You know, the one who is casual about the entire trip and just goes with the flow. Packing Luggage with a Hydraulic Press

Since airlines are charging for every bit of checked luggage these days, people are flying with carry-on luggage only.  Finnish maniac Lauri Vuohensilta has cracked the code for getting everything you need in a small suitcase you can stash in an overhead bin. With the compression power of a 150-ton hydraulic press, Lauri packs everything he needs for the trip- clothing, electronics, and snacks- with room left over. Might as well take a whole bunch of socks, too.

There's still room left in the suitcase, but it's getting heavy now. You have to wonder what airport security is going to think about this. Lauri is going to need an iron when he tries to unpack all this stuff. Who knows? Maybe he packed one, along with the flashlight and hair dryer. (via The Awesomer)
