Wonderwell: Carrie Fisher's Final Film

Carrie Fisher died suddenly on December 17, 2016. Six and a half years later, her last movie is coming to a theater (and streaming) near you. Wonderwell is the story of a young girl who finds an enchanted forest in Italy. She meets a wise old woman who might be the legendary witch she's heard of, played by Fisher. But she might not be the only witch in the story.

Why did it take so long for this movie to surface? Fisher's death was one factor. The actress had completed filming just weeks before she died, but that meant she was unavailable for any reshoots. COVID was another factor, but there were three years between Fisher's passing and the pandemic. According to Deadline, the real delay was caused by problems with visual effects, which wrecked the film's budget. Wonderwell will open for a limited run in AMC theaters on June 23, and also stream on Apple+ TV.
