Don't know why it is that people have the need to take something so simple and good (grilled cheese for instance) and then overcomplicate it in the name of "improving" it. Now they're messing with martinis. Chicken soup martinis? Just no. Pour your gin into an ice cold glass and wave the cap of a good vermouth 3 times over that glass. Drink. That's it. Feel free to bow toward France first, but that may require geographical knowledge and a compass. Don't overcomplicate!
