I don't want to dump on the writer of that EV charging article but jeez. Aside from the fact the dude's never spent a day anywhere near a campground, you don't need an app to charge your EV. But in addition to their monitoring and remote control functionality, they come in handy to help find charging stations, and show if they're working and/or occupied. And DC "fast charging" which, can't be done at home, is exactly the infrastructure the country needs for the EV market to truly take off.

I don't use an EV, but possibly the app is part of the way you pay for the charge, similar to the way you need an app to rent one of those e-bikes or e-scooters in some places.
