I am amazed at how far we've come in predicting the weather. Saturday I called off Sunday church services because the forecast said we'd have snow and ice between 10AM and 1PM. The skies were clear at 9AM Sunday and I wondered if that was a mistake. But at 10, we got snowfall that lasted until around one. Then it got warm enough to melt the roads later in the afternoon, just as predicted.
When I was a kid, the TV weather report would say something like we have a 50% chance of snow between one and four inches in the next couple of days. We'd wake up not knowing whether there would be school or not, and the poor principal had to get up at five or so to make the call. In the early '80s, when I was doing the morning show in a mountain town, the local principal would call me to see how my drive to work was. I lived close enough to walk if the roads were dangerous, which is likely why I had the morning show. In the 21st century, schools get the word out a day ahead, because the forecast is just that accurate.
This morning, I checked the forecast and saw that I may be stuck inside for a few days. But the snow won't start until 10, and the temperatures won't plunge until one, so I went out and got some supplies for a project I can do indoors. Modern meteorology is amazing.

Agreed! I hope your electricity stays on!
I envy you for your forecasting. Up here over the course of an hour or more of news, we get 4-5 snippets on "the weather". It's a cottage industry on local news. When it's finally over, if you asked me what the forecast was, I wouldn't have a clue. Predicting weather along the coast is even more tricky so we're constantly given the competing versions of the Euro and GFS weather models - they're always, literally always at odds so take your pick. All I want to know is how hot/cold it's gonna be, will the sun be out, is it going to precipitate, and if so how much? Too much to ask I guess.
I'm right on the edge of the current nastiness so not quite as accurate. They predicted snow starting at 2 AM, but it was still dry at 5:45 when I checked the bathroom, then at 10:30 about a half inch.
That's pretty good compared to when I was a kid and the forecast would be 50% chance of snow yesterday.
But be careful, don't bet the farm on these forecasts, they get fooled sometimes.

A dry bathroom at 2 AM is always a good thing!
Don't worry, Bill Gates has it under control.
Hah! Speaking of the devil. There's a piece of weatha in the Canadian Northwest and another in Southwestern California, both headed our way. The Euro says they'll go their separate ways, have a nice weekend! The GFS says they're going to combine just offshore and we're gonna get buried by a massive Nor'easter. Weather Scientists!
Enjoy weather forecasting while you still can. Project 2025 calls for eliminating government-coordinated forecasting, intending to privatize it for selected Elites and Corporations that can afford to pay for these services.
That's a plus for the peons, without a forecast there's no need to worry and make changes in your plans.
Every day the weather will be a surprise and everyone loves surprises, remember that puppy / kitty for Christmas / birthday surprise?
