Seems half the world is allergic to peanuts, yeast, gluten, micro-plastics and sensible politics these days, but I am sure the material from the cocoon of a moth will be inert inside our bodies.

WilliamRocket, the linked article on silk goes into detail about how the silk comes from glands near the silkworm's mouth, and it is washed before making fabric. Then the scientists purify it to remove everything but the fibroin protein before making medical use of it.
