Do not use debit cards. If someone steals the info from a credit card, you can refuse to pay the bank. If someone drains your bank account with a debit card, the bank can refuse to pay you.
I had one back in the '80s, when they were just called ATM cards. I also had a husband who thought money grew on trees. When I left him and came back to Kentucky in '93, there were no ATMs. So I got used to using a credit card for everything, and never jumped on the debit card bandwagon.
I believe in cash, "good for all debts public and private", unfortunately it's an uphill battle. The people in charge want us to use plastic; It requires less security on their end, makes it harder to be aware of how much you are spending, keeps a paper trail of what we spend money on.
My health insurance requires I pay a $5 copay for doctor visits. I have 3doctors in the same building as part of the Penn System. Last year they stopped taking cash. I contacted the money department and was told check or credit/debit card but when I went there they wouldn't take a check, only plastic. They don't refuse to allow entry, they'll bill you. OK, 3 doctors twice a year is 6 bills for $5 by mail then process the 6 checks I send back. I wonder what it costs them to collect that $30 I'd gladly pay on the spot?

Can't drain your bank account if you have nothing in it.
