I sometimes miss the company and social crutch of a significant other, but even if I have a friendly ex-wife and a friendly ex-partner (two different women) my real comfort and happiness comes from the five cats I have sharing my world.
Just to bore the socks off you all ...
1 - Pokeno, picked up as a stray from a rough neighbourhood of Auckland in 2013 as a teenaged cat. Handsome, sandy ginger, long white rear socks, good at silent meows. 11-12 years old.
2 - JimJam, started hanging around on the fence about 7 years ago, as a fully grown ginger ginger. Handsome, super friendly to all, insists on sitting on shoes, mainly with feet in them. Guessing 9-12 years old
3 - KitKat, tubby tabby that was born under my bed from a rescued grey queen, super friendly but to me only, skedaddles at the sight of anyone else. 5 years old.
4 - Cowboy, dark swirly tabby that I rescued from a workshop where the owner was intent on shooting him. Lives outside due to his feral parentage, I guess, think barn cat. Friendly to me only and only at feeding times.
5 - Lucy Babushka, an aged calico that I found under an abandoned house 4 years ago. petite beautiful girl with the softest fur. Has issues about being touched .
There were two other cats that earned massive spaces in my heart, but they have gone to the big cat bed. One was my first long term cat and I had him for 21 years, the other was with me for only 6 years but left me with his daughter, KitKat.
I can afford and have physical and emotional room for a few more cats, but I won't seek them, only have them if they just 'move in', as I worry that they will outlive me and I can't guarantee they will be looked after, after I am gone.
