A dog fell off a cliff at Ecola State Park in Oregon Wednesday evening. She fell about 300 feet and landed on a remote section of the beach, an area that's inaccessible except by rappelling off the cliff. The call came in to Coast Guard Air Station Astoria at about 7PM. They scrambled an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew that arrived little more than an hour later and lowered a Coast Guard swimmer just offshore. He found the dog and got her into a rescue basket, which the helicopter lifted to safety. The dog's owner was waiting at the top of the cliff, and was glad to see his dog.
The Coast Guard reports that the owner took the dog to an emergency vet, who found she was doing just fine after the accident, and has no injuries. A hearty thanks go out to the US Coast Guard, keeping our shorelines safe! (via Digg)

Wow! No injuries after that kind of fall? Nothing short of amazing. Kudos to Coast Guard, and same to all the amazing emergency people that pull us out of the jaws of death, time and again.
