In Alaska, you may have some special needs that you need a special pickup truck for. Instead of buying a whole new vehicle, there's usually a way to make what you need. Now, This particular design must have a purpose. After posting this elsewhere, people have informed me that this is a truck for launching a seaplane. I'm not up on how the modifications help in that purpose, but I'll take your word for it. (via Digg)

Same as launching a boat, you have to run the trailer or in this case truck, far enough down the ramp until the boat/plane floats free. With this truck he's facing the plane so can see what he's doing and when the plane is launched or loaded and he backs out his tires are high and dry. The underwater portion of ramps can be slippery. It sort of limits the use of the truck but for the job it's genius.
