8 Sick Remedies That Actually Work

The skeptic in me said that chicken soup for a cold is an old wive’s tale, but since I am an old wife and a mom, I also told myself it couldn’t hurt, probably warms the sick up, and gives them liquid and nutrients. And don’t we all crave comfort food when we’re sick? But some old wives really knew what they were talking about. AsapSCIENCE looks at home remedies for colds and other illnesses that have been in use for a long time, and the fairly recent scientific research that explores them. Another video tells us about the remedies that don’t work.  (via Viral Viral Videos)

They say this or that will shorten a cold by X days.
Is there a standard length for a cold?
I remember some that dragged on forever and some that were over in a wink.

Bruce, if you treat a cold, it will last about a week. If you don't treat it, it will last for about seven days.

Swine flu, on the other hand, lasts two months if you are over 50. Don't ask me how I know.
