Why American Breakfasts Are the Way They Are



When you grow up American, you are used to a rushed bowl of cold cereal for breakfast before school, or a donut or bagel eaten on the way to work. We depend on a cup of coffee to wake us up, and we know a breakfast without orange juice is like a day without sunshine. The rest of the world doesn't follow those breakfast traditions. So how did they come about? You may be surprised by how recent our tradition breakfast foods were developed. Their popularity can often be attributed to the power of advertising. Other American breakfast foods have long historical roots, but we made them American by adding more sugar and fat.
