Comment about the Alferd Packer cannibalism story: this event took place in the San Juan mountains, not the Sierra Nevada. The San Juans are part of the Rocky Mountain chain of mountains. The Sierra Nevada are farther south.

I noticed that, Kolo, and was surprised that the article got it wrong from the beginning. As a long time resident of Colorado (34 years), I am pretty familiar with the names of the mountain ranges in CO, and the Sierra Nevada are/is not one of them.

But I appreciate the link to the article you offered.

CW McCall on Alferd Packer

"Stand up yah voracious man-eatin' sonofabitch and
receive yir sitince. When yah came to Hinsdale
County, there was siven dimmycrats. But you, yah
et five of 'em..."

I know that's not what the judge really said,
but it does make for good press.

As an old Medical Technologist the story of the "Swamp Boy" was fascinating. Unfortunately the theatrical presentation made it so hard to read that I nearly gave up. If I can ever find the time to get to the bottom of the story again I will check on the scientific publication links.

Wonder what Swamp Boy's inner voices would have whispered to him if his parents had not indoctrinated him in the belief of some make believe god and associated demons and devils.

Maybe 'eat more ice cream' ?

Then again my parents, for whatever stupid reason they had, put me in a Catholic school, but I was saved by having enough intelligence at 12 or 13 to question the validity of the dusty old writings the Catholic robe wearing 'brothers' were constantly going on about.

Perhaps a level of stupi ... lets say a lack of logical thinking, is needed to consider listening to 'god's' ramblings, in your head.

Please note - I have no clinical degrees in phycology or any proof that Jesus was anything but a short Jewish Arab with a magnetic personality.

And yes, Anonymouse, it was too hard to read the entire article.

It was annoying formatting, but I read the whole thing. Diagnosis is interesting, and this was no exception.
