In New Zealand we got colour TV in the early 70s. My dad would tell us to turn the colour button down to get rid of some of the racism that the US and British shows had back in those days. My dad was quite the liberal. I thought for a long time that hue and cry came from someone turning UP the colour knob, thereby causing more racial upset.
