Dickens is an example of writing that's easy to read because it's English, and hard to understand because Dickens is so clever. I read the opening paragraph of Bleak House & had to look up Michaelmas term, Lord Chancellor, and Lincoln's Inn Hall, and that was just in the first couple of lines. Very interesting link.
