French is Easy!

Of course the Muppets have gone to France, that's where the Olympics are happening! Cookie Monster wanted to learn a little French while he was there, and so consulted Alexandre Durand and Tom Carles of AT Frenchies. Too bad they didn't work "merde" into the mix, but that wouldn't have been family-friendly enough for Sesame Street. Cookie Monster did his best, even without the promise of a cookie.

However, native French speakers in the comments pointed out that "mémère" isn't commonly used for "grandma" anymore, and they call theirs "grandmère." Which lets us know that this is a pretty old joke among language classes. It's kind of akin to Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo. (via Laughing Squid)
