Astonishing Little Feet

Afong Moy was the first known Chinese woman to come to the United States, in 1834. The circumstances that led to her arrival are not exactly known, but when she was here, they put her on display as an exhibit. Maegan Houang illustrates how that began in this short film. Foot binding was a cruel practice, but so is exploiting people and disregarding their dignity. (via Nag on the Lake)

Well, it's just a girl. [/sarcasm]
At least it's not as bad as the one-child policy for girls.
On second thought maybe not surviving would be better than that abuse.
In fairness the Chinese were far from the only ones abusing girls.
