Three Ways to Destroy the Universe

The universe is expanding, as it has always done, doubling its size every 12 billion years. Is there a limit to how much it can expand? Will it ever be just too thin to exist? When we speculate on how the universe will end, we have to understand it's a battle between two titan forces-  gravity and dark energy. Gravity is the force that makes all matter attract each other. Dark energy comes from the growing pockets of emptiness that happens in an expanding universe. How the universe will meet its demise all depends on the struggle between these two forces. Kurzgesagt offers three scenarios, two of them in which dark energy wins as more empty space grows between galaxies and everything else in the universe. These are stories of space and physics, but the end of the universe is not something you need to worry about, because we'll all be gone long before any of this can happen. The point is made in ten minutes; the rest of this video is an ad.
