During the vote, he almost voted FOR paid medical leave! Either he was being sincere, or brain dead. Regardless, his fellow republicans made sure he “corrected” his decision and cast the deciding vote against it.
It should be noted that McConnell returned to the Senate to vote to get a Farm Bill moved out of committee. There was no vote on paid a medical leave bill
