I was a big fan of Star Trek: The Original Series as a kid, and Star Trek: The Next Generation as an adult. Then I lost track of the franchise while raising children. There were several more TV series and movies. Then something happened. For one thing, Gene Roddenberry died in 1991. But even more important, streaming TV services came about. CBS All Access debuted in 2014, and rebranded as Paramount+ in 2021. They took a note from what Disney was doing with Star Wars and used their premiere science fiction property, the Star Trek universe, to drum up new subscribers. That meant offering a lot more Star Trek content in a hurry to draw the millions of fans who had followed the franchise for up to fifty years.

I don't see the problem. Also, before streaming new Trek shows, there were a bunch of series and movies between the original series and streaming. I suppose if someone hasn't watched in a while, there would be a lot to catch up on, so the main problem, I guess, is the amount of time needed to do so. :)
