On September 18, 1983, Kiss performed for the first time without their trademark black-and-white face makeup. They were almost completely bare-faced until their Reunion Tour in 1996. We don't know if that was because they wanted to harness the nostalgia factor for their '70s fame, or because they realized they were getting older and developing wrinkles. But today it's hard to confront Kiss with no makeup, but that's what we've got in this music video for a collaboration with The J. Geils Band. What?
It's not a voluntary collaboration, but a new mashup from the master of mixing, Bill McClintock. We get the tune from "Freeze Frame," the J. Geils hit from 1982, but then comes the lyrics from "Detroit Rock City," a hit for Kiss in 1976. The two very disparate songs mesh well, which is what McClintock does. But why are we getting video from Kiss recorded about ten years after they released that song? It's possible that it was the best footage available for McClintock to use, but it still feels a bit weird to see the band bare faced in this day and age.
