Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

The 2000 film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was the first foreign language film to make over $100 million in the US, and deservedly so. Directed by Ang Lee, it was heavily focused on women warriors. It had the best production values we'd ever seen in a martial arts film, and featured not one but two tragic love stories. The older leads were played by stars we knew, Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh, and the two younger stars (Zhang Ziyi and Chang Chen) were impossibly gorgeous. Michelle Yeoh did not speak Mandarin at the time, and had already had to learn Cantonese for her career in Hong Kong. She memorized all her lines for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon phonetically!

It's such a great film and so beautiful too. Worth watching again now we have even bigger TVs.
