Heavy metal music fans may seem dark and angry to those who don't know them, but the opposite is actually true. You might even call their music "happy metal." That comes from several factors: a sense of community, stress relief, a sense of freedom from societal expectations, and the basic human enjoyment of music. DW History and Culture went to a the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany to talk to metal fans about their love of the genre. Even local residents are impressed how friendly and easygoing metal fans are. (via reddit)

By contrast, people who enjoy elevator music are the psychopaths we need to beware of.
I remember people grousing about those damn hippies, all the while the guy next door in the three piece suit was the dangerous one.
Yes, music you like is cathartic.
Like what was said in the video, I can see heavy metal fans being happy and easy-going.
I feel that catharsis by going to a Weird Al Yankovic concert or listening to Harry Chapin. And yes, I have eclectic taste in music.
Electic taste 99% of the time means good taste. Weird Al and Chapin proves my point.
