Bald eagles are fascinating. My parents had a nesting pair on their property for over 20 year's, and dad fed them regularly. They not only recognized him, but could differentiate between his first and second cup of coffee - if he didn't feed them after cup #1, they would start calling and swooping over the house.
I never had seen that the eagle's knees are backwards like shore birds.
With backwards knees (well, compared to ours and many other animals), they can wade through water without making much noise or waves; we cannot do that.
There is a restaurant in Quincy, Illinois, that sticks out over the Mississippi river. While eating, you can look across the river and see bald eagles and their nests. It was pretty cool.
