The World's Loudest Sound

Try to guess what would be the loudest sound on record for the earth we know. Those qualifications discount prehistoric events and celestial events like exploding stars. Would it be a nuclear explosion? A Who concert? The Tunguska Event? Your toddler throwing a tantrum? How about none of the above? Great Big Story reveals what experts consider to be the loudest event in recorded history, an eardrum-splitting 310 decibels, after explaining the decibel scale so we can get an idea of how very loud it was. Spoiler for those who can't wait for a two-minute video: you can read more about the deadly event at Wikipedia.  (via Laughing Squid)

I'm going to go with the Who concert, and now go watch the video...

I would have guessed the NFL playoff game, Ravens @ Steelers, January 15, 2011, a few minutes into the 2nd half. I would be wrong, but I think that is the loudest event I have personally been a part of.

They say Krakatoa caused permanent hearing loss for people within 100 miles of the eruption.

IIRC Eruption was by Van Halen, not Crack-A-Toe-Ah
