Reaction to The Little Mermaid Teaser

Little girls get their first glimpse at the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. I watched the 15 minute version, and it made me cry. Representation matters.

In case you are not all that young, and read about the star Halle Bailey as Halle Berry, they are different people. Ms. Bailey was named after Ms. Berry. Now you feel REALLY old, don't you?  (via reddit)

Some people may call it 'being inclusive', but I still can't help but think it's pandering to a specific demographic in the pursuit of the almighty dollar.

Uh, you know that "pursuit of the almighty dollar" is Disney's entire reason for existing, right? If that's what it takes to make all little girls equally feel like a princess for a minute, then so be it.

Cool!

Also, It's hardly pandering when they'll lose twice the sales of tickets to racists as they will gain from additional people who want to see an inclusive film. Good on you Mickey.

Why the need for girls to feel like a princess?

Why the need for someone to look just like you in order to relate?

And isn't Halle Berry of mixed race?

The stuff people get triggered about. So a fairy tale character is going to be played by a person of color this time. So what? How does this effect your life in any way?
