Thanks for that article about the Netflix copyright infringement lawsuit re Bridgerton. I'm surprised Netflix was as lenient about the whole thing as they were up until the live performances.

@Debra: I've been in fandom for over 20 years, although not as a creator. The vast majority of fanfic authors are/were always very very careful to post disclaimers that their works were not intended to infringe upon copyright & they were not intended to make money. The few authors who tried to charge for their work were loudly & promptly shut down & driven out of their fandom by their peers, who feared, quite rightly, that looking for profit could shut down that fandom.

Netflix is entirely within its legal rights to allow fandom to create content, as long as it does not profit financially from that content. After all, that fanmade content is free publicity.
