Not to minimize the tragedy currently going on in Ukraine in any way, but it's only fair to mention that much of London spent their lives underground in tube stations converted into makeshift bomb shelters for a good part of 1940 and 1941.
My mum did that for a while, but eventually they shipped her and my older siblings out to the country. It makes you think, all those 'preppers' not so much nutters now, hey ? I live way down near the bottom of the Pacific .. no, no, not under the water (FFS) near the bottom on the map ... but who knows what will happen one day. Russia invades Ukraine, no one does a thing to help, so China thinks 'well, that was easy, the west is weak' so they invade Taiwan. Now, I am no geopolitical scientist ... but I read of China financially helping a lot of Pacific islands, and getting a firm foothold in those islands by doing so ... so if they were emboldened by Taiwan, and then a whole bunch of small Pacific islands, what's to stop them invading New Zealand. Half the stuff you buy here is Chinese made anyway, I moaned and wrote to the papers years ago about us losing not only our manufacturing but also about becoming dependant on another country ... I wasn't alone in my comments but it is hard for people to willingly purchase the more expensive item ... look at Walmart and Amazon's success (America could easily fix such companies by not buying from them, but people just won't) Anyhow, the point I'm making is it is a good idea to build a bunker. Because I reconfigured my house to have a bar room I lost a bedroom by walling off the door (you have to be here to fully understand the why) so I cut through the back of a wardrobe and now, viola ! I have a panic room ... but I would really like a bunker, so maybe I'll pull the floorboards and start digging.
If you don't hear from me for a while ....... send in the rescue dogs.

Our CBC news featured this young Ukrainian Tik-Tokker the other night. She's making the best of a bad situation alright.
