How quickly can you find which nine states (seven besides Alaska and Hawaii) are missing from this map? It's harder if you don't live in one of them! This comic is from Randall Munroe at xkcd.

-chuckle- I could only find seven. And then it hit me.
I had to look Delaware up, found Washington too ! When I was dragged across the globe as a child, I spent some years in Australia, had to learn the states and territories, all 8 of them ... but you guys had to learn FIFTY !
WilliamRocket, there's no expectation that American students will learn all the states. There was no attempt at all to teach them when I was in school.
<< There was no attempt at all to teach them when I was in school. >> Wow. Regional difference. We had to not only learn the 50 states, but also memorize the state capitals.
BTW, Bill, Nebraska is NE. (NB is the Canadian province New Brunswick.)
My kids had to learn all the state capitals in parochial school, but learning those doesn't mean a student can name all the states, nor find them on a map. My kids can, because we hung maps and taught geography at home, plus we make a lot of road trips.

Being from Delaware I saw that first. Last one was Kansas, but who would miss Kansas anyway? :)
@Snowman:
Hah! see it's not there either.
