Job Interview

This one really hit home for me. The management at my day job keeps asking about my satisfaction level and my future goals with the company. This is my first unskilled job since the 1980s, and no one has asked me things like that before. I'm new, I'm part time, and I'm 60. You just keep paying me, and I'll keep coming to work and giving my best effort. This comic is from Zach Weinersmith at Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal.

Unskilled? Like menial and beneath you? I hope your co-workers don't read your blog.I have followed and enjoyed it for years and frankly, this doesn't sound like you.

Gosh, I think all work is honorable, and sometimes people tire of the soul-eating "professional occupations". It's OK to work for money to keep the domestic system afloat, and we don't always have the perfect job available.I agree that there is little need for employers to psychoanalyze someone who does a good job, however.

By "unskilled," I mean that anyone could do it. They pay me because it's hard work. Nothing dishonorable about it. What's weird is that no one ever cared whether I was satisfied in jobs that were supposedly "professional."
