The original artwork, titled "Un Évanouissement" (A Fainting Fit), was published as part of a satirical series in Paris during the mid-1800s. It depicts a highly melodramatic, upper-class Victorian salon scene where a gentleman has fainted or swooned into a chair while his companions anxiously rush to loosen his collar and hold him up.
