Although only very short fragments remain, the first motion pictures were made in 1888 by Louis Le Prince, in Leeds, in the north of England.
The first is generally agreed to be the one of traffic crossing Leeds bridge, the second was shot outside Le Prince's in-law's house, Oakwood Grange, in Roundhay, Leeds.
Louis Le prince's story is worthy of a thriller, the skulduggery at the U.S. patent office, the industrial espionage by Edison's agents, and finally, Louis' disappearance and presumed death, after being seen boarding a train at Dijon, in France, he disappeared forever.
This occurred in 1890, he and his invention died before Lumiere and Edison started.
