This and that

I have about a million jokes, links, and pictures stored in my computer. About three dozen files are categorized, but they aren't quite full enough yet to pull up and publish. Lately, I've had a problem surfing, in that I look at all kinds of things and I think, yeah, that's cute, but it isn't funny ENOUGH for my dozen or so readers. And I have also been quite busy, trying to make myself clear this mess of a house up since I'm going to have company this weekend. I bought a turkey, but haven't done anything else to get ready for Thanksgiving (which I am cooking, DON'T LAUGH). So I am going to throw a few MissCellanious funny things at you today, see how you like it.

This music video is cute, funny, and sad all at once. Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me.

The Good Earth: pictures of our world from outer space. Lovely!

You’re gonna waste your time tossing paper wads in the can across the room anyway. Do it online, so you don’t have to pick up the litter. (Thanks, Del!)

I found an awesome acheivement in editing, and the kids will like it, too. The gang from Peanuts does Hey Ya!

I Love Egg has a series of very strange flash animations starring eggs.

A game that might drive you crazy: Red Square. I had to pull myself away. About 12 seconds is my best attempt.

Dixie Talk

Every once in a while, the subject of local dialects comes up in my yahoogroups. Yes, accents are just about audible through typing, because of the way we put words together. I DO type words like “y’all” and “reckon” when I’m joining in a conversation. Once I got into an exchange with a friend from Alabama, using as many Southern idioms as we could. The other members tried to guess where we were from (Oklahoma?). Ha! I’m a Kentucky girl, which is still considered a border state, but I’m in the SOUTHERN part of Kentucky, and spent many years in Tennessee besides. So you could call me educated in Southern Speech, even though I am just a hillbilly.

Why is that important? Because when you make fun of Southern Speech, you better be from the South. We can laugh at ourselves all day, but if someone from UP NORTH makes light of our ways, the bile gets to risin'. Meaning, we don't like it. GRITS (Girls Raised in The South) and Good Ole Boys will set you straight in a Noo Yawk minute. Then again, maybe we make fun of ourselves so we can beat the others to the punch. See some posts about it at Clueless in Carolina, Churp Churp, and Scattered and Covered.

Do you have a born-and-bred Southern dialect? Take the Yankee or Dixie Test to make sure. (Thanks, Thor!)

If you came out as a Yankee, you may want to consult the Dixie Dictionary or the Southern Word Homepage to get yourself up to speed. Also, here’s our secret to being catty as all get out while remaining ladylike.

But you cannot LEARN to be a true Southerner. It takes years and years of following the fine examples of our ancestors. Bless their hearts.

Things You'll Never Hear a Southerner Say

We don't keep firearms in this house.
Has anybody seen the sideburn trimmer?
You can't feed that to the dog.
I thought Graceland was tacky.
No kids in the back of the pick-up, it's not safe.
Wrasslin's fake.
Do you think my hair is too big?
I'll have grapefruit instead of a bowl of gravy.
Honey, these bonsai trees need watering?
Give me the SMALL bag of pork rinds.
Deer heads detract from the decor.
Spitting is such a nasty habit.
I just couldn't find a thing at Wal-Mart today.
Trim the fat off that steak.
Cappuccino tastes better than espresso.
The tires on that truck are too big.
I'll have the arugula and radicchio salad.
Unsweetened tea tastes better.
Would you like your fish poached or broiled?
My fiancee, Paula Jo, is registered at Tiffany's.
Little Debbie snack cakes have too many fat grams.
Checkmate.
Does the salad bar have bean sprouts?
Hey, here's an episode of "Hee Haw" that we haven't seen.
I don't have a favorite college team.
I believe you cooked those green beans too long.
Elvis who?
Be sure to bring my salad dressing on the side.

Thought for today: In the South, the breeze blows softer...neighbors are friendlier, nosier, and more talkative. (By contrast with the Yankee, the Southerner never uses one word when ten or twenty will do)...This is a different place. Our way of thinking is different, as are our ways of seeing, laughing, singing, eating, meeting and parting. Our walk is different, as the old song goes, our talk and our names. Nothing about us is quite the same as in the country to the north and west. What we carry in our memories is different too, and that may explain everything else. --Charles Kuralt

Still More Dubya

For some reason, I thought the next batch of Dubya funnies could be put off for another week or so, but the links keep piling up. Everybody wants to get into the act! I'm not complaining, its wonderful blogfodder. Thanks to all who have sent jokes, links, and pictures. Keep those coming!

Photo Gallery of George Bush’s fondness for bald heads.

THIS is funny (if you are familiar with the original song), from The Intellectual Comedy Salon (great source). Young MC meets Washington 2005. Lyrics only, but someone WILL make a video soon, I bet!

Dubya’s blog... Q and A style

BUSH IN OUR SCHOOLS

George Bush goes to a primary school to talk about the war. After his talk he opens the floor to questions. One little boy puts up his hand and George asks him what his name is.

"Billy."

"And what is your question, Billy?"

"I have 3 questions. First, why did the USA invade Iraq without the support of the UN? Second, why are you President when Al Gore got more votes? And third, whatever happened to Osama Bin Laden?" Just then the bell rings recess. George Bush informs the kiddies that they will continue after recess.

When they resume George says, "OK, where were we? Oh! That's right! - Question time. So who has a question?"

Another little boy puts up his hand. George points him out and asks him what his name is. "Steve" "And what is your question, Steve?"

"I have 5 questions. First, why did the USA invade Iraq without the support of the UN? Second, why are you President when Al Gore got more votes? Third, whatever happened to Osama Bin Laden? Fourth, why did the recess bell go 20 minutes early? And Fifth, what the hell happened to Billy?"

(Thanks to Joe for the sign!)

Now, before you read the rest of this, remember I LOVE men. I also have a high respect for women. Geeks

Hey, we can laugh at just about anything, but you have to admit, Geeks are the real modern heroes. Several times over the last year, I've had to sent out a "damsel in distress" email to my Geek Squad. They always seem to come through with just the help I need (especially Ken).

How much of a Geek are you? This one’s a pretty simple test, I only missed one (#4) where I made a wild guess.

This is a much more extensive and useful test. If you don't know exactly what a Geek is, trying to answer these questions will give you a really good overview of geekdom.

+ Geekish Tendencies.....................≥09%
++ Geek.............................................≥15%
+++ Total Geek................................≥25%
++++ Major Geek............................≥35%
+++++ Super Geek..........................≥45%
++++++ Extreme Geek...................≥55%
+++++++ Geek God........................≥65%
+++++++! Dysfunctional Geek......≥75%

I scored Total Geek 31.6%. I got extra points for being female, but not enough to make a difference in my category.

In case you want to raise your Geek quotient, come to terms with your Geekiness, or just embrace your inner Geek, you’ll want to become familiar with the Code of the Geeks v3.12.

While researching this subject, I came across this town in Japan that caters to geeks, cooking tips for geeks, (including a blog for hungry geeks called Cooking for Engineers), and some really good advice to geeks on picking up women.

Non geeks often have trouble communitcating with Geeks. There does seem to be a language barrier.

Do you know your geeks? Try this: Geek or Serial Killer? (thanks, Ed!)

Genuine Geeks may go straight to this link: Geek Fantasies.
Didn’t find many sites along those lines. The world needs more Geek Porn.

Reasons Geeks Can't Sleep

11. Not because of caffeine. Just can't stop thinking about coffee.
10. Converting MP3 collection to OGG taking longer than you thought.
9. Dorito crumbs on sheets cause unbearable itching.
8. Borg costume needed redesigning because it just wasn't realistic enough.
7. Had to keep checking the torrent to make sure it was still downloading.
6. Too scared to sleep after watching "Hackers" and knowing they can make more movies like it.
5. MMORPG withdrawal causing uncontrolable shaking.
4. Removed your bed to make room for the server rack.
3. Years of living underground have made your eyelids translucent.
2. Watched special edition of Star Wars and still pissed off over Greedo shooting first.
1. Had to sell bed to buy new graphics card.

Programmers Drinking Song

99 little bugs in the code,
99 little bugs in the code,
fix one bug, compile it again,
101 little bugs in the code.
101 little bugs in the code.....
(Repeat until no more bugs)

For Geeks who saw some humor in the above joke, here's the song "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" in various (I mean hundreds) of programming languages. You may also add yours!

SMALL TALK AT A PARTY

A crusty old Sergeant Major found himself at a gala event, hosted by a local liberal arts college. There was no shortage of extremely young, idealistic ladies in attendance, one of whom approached the Sergeant Major for some conversation.

She said, "Excuse me, Sergeant Major, but you seem to be a very serious man. Is something bothering you?"

"Negative, ma'am," the Sergeant Major replied, "Just serious by nature."

The young lady looked at his awards, medals and decorations and
said, "It looks like you've seen quite a lot of action."

The Sergeant Major's short reply was, "Yes, ma'am, a lot of action."

The young lady, tiring of trying to start up a conversation, said, "You
know, you should just lighten up a little. Relax and enjoy yourself..."

The Sergeant Major just stared at her in his serious manner.

Finally, deciding to take a different tack, the young lady said,
"You know, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but when is the
last time you had sex?"

The Sergeant Major looked at her and curtly replied, "1955, ma'am."

She gasped, "Well, there you are! You really need to chill out and
quit taking everything so seriously! I mean, no sex since 1955!
Isn't that a little extreme?"

The Sergeant Major, glancing at his watch, said in his matter-of-fact
voice,"Do you think so? It's only 2130 now..."

Thought for today: Change is good as long as I don't have to do anything differently.

Fun with Dubya

The last few weeks have not been good to Dubya. Its like when the little boy yelled “The emperor has no clothes!” and the rest decided they weren’t the only ones to see him naked. But there are no shortage of little boys this time. There’s Katrina, Rita, Scooter, Brownie, Rove, Harriet, Delay, and stuff like Iraq, the budget, and things like this. Ain’t nothin going “right” for poor Dubya these days. And the forecast is even worse. But we can always find SOME things to laugh at!

How about some videos?

World leaders sing Abba.

Bush makes a cameo appearance in Schwarzeneggar Street, and in the U2 video Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.

An ad for Freddy Ferrer in his bid against Michel Bloomberg... featuring Dubya, of course.

All those indicted aides might need more lawyering than they thought. Here’s a suggestion... actually an ad.

Speaking of lawyers and such...Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito has his own blog. He’s almost as happy about being in the limlight as Harriet Miers was. Personally, I’m sorry to see Miers out of the running. I figure if you have to have a new republican Justice, at least she’d be an ineffectual one.

The Anti-Bush Video Game.

A much shorter game, George Wants Beer. Use your mouse to try and keep him upright.

Arianna Hufffington had the passion and the info, and I love to read what she has to say. Hearing what she has to say is completely different, because HOW she speaks can distract you from what she's saying. So go take The Lucky Sperm Club test.

Show your support for indicted staffer Scooter Libby by getting one of these Posters!

Pictures I lifted from an very amusing blog called It Occurred To Me. He's got more Dubya fun on this post.

Q: How many Bush Administration officials does it take to screw in a
light bulb?

A: None. There is nothing wrong with the light bulb; its conditions are improving every day. Any reports of its lack of incandescence are a delusional spin from the liberal media. That light bulb has served honorably, and anything you say undermines the lighting effect. Why do
you hate freedom? (Thanks, Joe!)

Official Announcement:

The government today announced that it is changing its emblem from an Eagle to a CONDOM because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed.
