The Police Dept's purpose is to generate income for the city/town/state and direct traffic when there's a problem.

I grew up between Belchertown and Hazardville.
The Blue Ball tavern where George Washington set up his first recruitment station, later became the Blue Ball Hotel. Friends of mine ran it for a few years then lost their lease as the owners wanted to tear it down. When word got around the public, preservation folks, and township officials were against it so the owners knocked it down on a three day weekend when people were otherwise occupied. There's still a hole where it stood at the corner of 23 & 352.
Matter of fact I have one of my cars stored in Blue Ball.
