Dash cams became a thing in 1939, when the first police officer mounted a motion picture film camera pointing out the windshield of his patrol car. Consumer versions took off in Russia in the 21st century, where people used them as evidence for defense against accident scammers, and those videos became internet fodder. Now there are enough dash cams around that if you have an accident, the odds are good that someone has a recording. Whether they stop to offer you that footage is another thing, but there are enough publicly-available crash videos for YouTuber Road Legends to compile a half hour of the scariest crashes of the past year. You don't have to watch this entire video in one sitting; in fact, I would advise against it. It might put you off driving -or people- for a while. (via Fark)
