The Weirdest Elephant

On the path to what they are now, elephants went through a lot of prototype designs. You know about the mammoth and the mastodon, but even earlier there was Platybelodon, which looked like a drawing from a child who didn't quite yet understand how elephants are shaped. In a modern elephant, you don't notice its lower jaw because it is overshadowed by the huge trunk and tusks, but it's the most prominent feature of this animal. All the better to eat trees with.
