Classical Music

(Thanks, WTM!)

Elevator music is way more likely to be royalty-free "easy listening" than real classical music, but Americans seldom get enough music education to tell the difference. (I remember when they wheeled a phonograph into our classroom and played us "Peer Gynt," but next year I'll be 70.)

But the real point of jokes like this one is that Americans used to hear enough classical music on the radio (usually opera) that the creators of Bugs Bunny expected them to recognize it and know its plot lines well enough that Bugs and Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd could parody it for laughs.
