Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through

On the passing of Jim Steinman Monday, Metafilter reminded me of this song from 1981. I knew "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through" well, but I had never seen the (really weird) video until today. The vocals are by Rory Dodd; Jim Steinman is lip-synching in the video.

Back in the day, I could always recognize a Jim Steinman song no matter who sung it because he would stuff multiple lyrics into a musical note, so it was obvious no matter whether it was Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler, Celine Dion, or Air Supply performing. He left quite a musical legacy.

Miss C, I agree with you about a Steinman song- you could always tell his influence. Did you ever hear "I've Got Dance In My Pants", with Steinman and Karla DeVito? It's great! (DeVito was the singer used in the video "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" with Meat Loaf.) Have a great Wednesday!

I had to watch the video again- better than I remembered!

Yeah, I remember that one, and I've even seen the video before!

Would we have even had Meat Loaf if it weren't for Jim Steinman?  Theirs was a collaboration that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Lennon/McCartney. Elton John/Bernie Taupin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, or Moss and Hart.
