If you recall, The Andy Griffith Show began with arrival of Aunt Bee to take care of Sheriff Taylor and his son Opie. She agreed to move in with the Taylors after Andy lost his housekeeper to marriage. This is the opening scene to the first show. Opie was adorable, but somewhat of a brat. It was Ronnie Howard's dad who convinced the writers to make Opie a more amiable child and Andy a more authoritative father, which was a good idea in the long run.

Since becoming a director, Ronnie Howard has always taken care of his dad, Rance Howard, as well as his lesser-known actor brother, Clint (who starred with Dennis Weaver in "Gentle Ben"). Check the credits of almost any film he's directed and you will usually find a small supporting-role credit for one or both of them.
