The Riker Maneuver Causes a Stir

Commander Riker's unique method of getting in and out of a chair has become known as the Riker Maneuver. It ultimately caused some problems among the Enterprise crew, and Captain Picard had to have a talk with him. Notice how he references anonymous complaints and then makes it clear who complained. Long afterward, we found out that actor Jonathan Frakes was dealing with pain from a back injury when Star Trek: The Next Generation was in production, and the maneuver was a less painful way of sitting down -especially in that spandex jumpsuit.
