Before The Sound of Music, there was Die Trapp-Familie, a 1956 West German film chronicling the story of Maria von Trapp based on her 1949 autobiography. Die Trapp-Familie is not a musical, and there isn't even a soundtrack, except for the children singing. Oh yeah, and there's a wedding march. The story is pretty much the same as the Rogers and Hammerstein musical that was adapted from it, except in this version, the dramatic climax comes after the family immigrated to America. Be sure to turn the closed captions on for English subtitles.

Wow, that was great! The Von Trapp story was surprisingly the same in some places, very different in others. A fun watch.
