The 1953 film Cat Women of the Moon introduced the idea of alien civilizations completely populated by sexy women, leading to a slew of similar films that weren't as good but reliably drew in audiences. It's ridiculous, but fun to watch. (via Voleflix)

Cat-Women of the Moon is loosely based on the true story of the Moon-Women of Mare Frigoris. In ancient times they wanted boyfriends, but then after putting up with the Boyfriends of Mare Nebium, they put their collective feet down. Enough tomfoolery was enough. The Cat-Women of the Moon decided to live alone and get a cat. This sufficed, until they saw a second cat. I don't want to give away the whole story, but let's just say there end up being a few more cats involved.
Based on a true story? Hmm...
