She was doing her colleagues a favor, ask anyone who works for a vet how many fidos and fluffies they have to keep sorted.
Sometimes you just run out of names...
With some breeds of cats, like Birmans, the tradition is that each kitten born in a year have names that start with the same letter. While this makes it easy to know how old a Birman is when you know its name, it is hard when the letter of the year is Q. Or U.
