Yep, you must have shrunk over the past year. This is kind of like my adult daughters finding that they have shrunk according to the doorpost where we marked their height growing up. It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that the floor was rebuilt in the intervening years. Take my advice and record your kids' heights on something that is both portable and immutable, like a yardstick. Or for William Rocket, a "metre stick." Marks on trees don't move up as the tree grows. The tree gets taller from the top. That's why carved initials into a tree trunk don't end up at the top of the tree years later...
