The Big Announcement

Good luck getting anything done between now and September. That's enough time for most of the staff to find a better job, and all you'll be left with are the ones who weren't performing all that well anyway. This comic is from Jeff Lofvers at Don't Hit Save.

Reminds me of the company that was planning on a big layoff in a couple of weeks. It sent information to an employee to prepare a presentation for the layoff announcement. The employee noticed that he was on the list of people to be fired, so he immediately sent the information out to everyone then quit.

Before email and reliable voice mail, I was told on a Friday evening to lay off half of my staff on Monday morning, as were about 25 other directors, the week before Thanksgiving. Very late on Sunday night, HR tried to call all affected directors to delay the announcement until the first week in January, but didn’t reach everyone. So it blew up and they had to go ahead with the layoff since several of us told our staff, as instructed on Friday… I was glad it blew up, because over 300 people knew that they’d be SOL after January 3, and so could try to adjust holiday spending accordingly. It was the stupidest decision ever, until the next stupid decision they made, but I left for another job before they could disappoint me again.

Not only look for another job but the information they take with them, or destroy.
