The Blue Ridge Mountain Dancers perform with Pete Seeger at Newport Folk Festival in 1964. It's a; about the feet! Commenter pickumuphigher, who was there, said,
It was 50 years ago in July when we performed this dance at Newport. Imagine if you will these, with one exception, teenagers left North Carolina, and drove to Rhode Island, not really knowing what to expect. We saw things that at that time we had never thought about. One thing that fascinated me was the number of people that brought musical instrument and played right along with the entertainers. Another fascination was the first night that we were there, the show was located at an old drive in movie theater. The sky was overcast, the wind blowing fairly briskly, Mary Travers was singing, wearing a black dress with her blond hair ( I started to write blowing in the wind but thought better) a spot light on her from the waist up. No one else could be seen on the stage. Remarkable.
