Le Piano Vivant (The Living Piano)

Remember Athanasius Kircher's cat piano? The human version has been brought to reality in Quebec. From the YouTube link:

Set during the Festival d'Opéra de Québec, TFO brought opera to the people by inviting the public to engage with a new interactive and never- seen-before instrument. The Living Piano is a 12-note, giant keyboard that you play with your feet, featuring opera singers who elegantly belt out their corresponding notes as the different keys are played. From children to seniors to the occasional dog, TFO allowed the public to play with and discover opera as they moved from note to note, making music every step of the way.

The End

The latest from filmmaker Fabrice Mathieu, The End is a tribute to the lost year of 2020, an experimental montage made using looping gifs from classic films. It's set to the tune "My Fault" by Ennio Morricone, which you might recall from the spaghetti Western My Name is Nobody. At first it seems like a simple mashup of similar images, but it takes us from waiting to coping methods to confusion to panic to despair as it goes along. Watch it once for the mood, then again to see how many movies you can identify. (via Laughing Squid)

Corn Kernel Removal Tool

You can take kernels off a corn cob the old-fashioned way, but when a friend tries to one-up you, you gotta go the distance. Challenge accepted! But the real purpose of over-engineering this gadget turns out to be not so much making the work efficient, but lobbing cobs at your competition. (via Geeks Are Sexy)

How Guys Talk About a Date vs. What Actually Happens

This seems harmless, but super awkward when it's someone you work with and will see the next day. As someone with a lot of experience dating someone you work with, you should wait until you are both really crazy about each other before trying a "real date." And even then, there's no need to tell everyone. I guess that's one good thing about Tinder- if you don't click, you can move on more easily. (via Digg)

What Does U.S. Health Care Look Like Abroad?

Health care is so much more simple and comprehensive around the world that people in other countries are astounded by America's system. They don't understand why we put up with it. I understand the system, but I also don't know why we put up with it.
