You know what they say: time flies when you're having fun. Forty years ago should be ancient times, but it was 1980. That was the year Mount St. Helens erupted. The year you could buy Apple stock for $22 (or if you had way more money, an Apple computer). The year that angelic child star McCaulay Culkin was born. Some of the things that arose in 1980 seem like they happened just yesterday, while others really do seem like ancient history. Take a nostalgic look back at 1980 and the things that will turn 40 years old in 2020 in a list I wrote for Considerable.

20 Things Turning 50 in 2020
Yikes! The year 1970 was fifty years ago! That's hard to believe, and it's also hard to believe all the important events, products, and people who came to be in 1970. Take a look back with my latest article for Considerable, detailing what turns 50 years old in 2020.

11 Unusual Regional American Christmas Traditions
We often read articles about the different ways people celebrate Christmas in other countries, but there are wide variations in tradition even within the US. Some of these regional traditions hark back to the residents' country of origin, while others have taken a local feature or historical occurrence and made it their own annual celebration. Read about how different parts of our country put their own spin on Christmas in my latest article for Considerable.

Awesome Gingerbread Houses
My new post for Considerable is up! 11 people whose gingerbread houses are works of art. Well, a couple of them aren't really houses, but they are all amazing works of art that you could eat if they weren't so pretty. I mean, they really should have some leftover gingerbread cookies after making them for anyone who is tempted.

14 Ways We Amused Ourselves as Kids
My latest list for Considerable is up! It's 14 ways we amused ourselves growing up that seem strange today. Remember making acetylene in a soda can? Waiting for the glue on your hands to dry? Yeah, some of these are still around, but they still don't make much sense.

November 1979
My latest article for Considerable is up! It's another historical list. November 1979: 13 things that happened 40 years ago this month. It was a pretty momentous month, and there are things other than the Iran hostage crisis that happened that may have flown under your radar.
This was apparently published four days ago, and I just found out about it from the site's newsletter. But it's not accessible from the main page of Considerable, so it's important to share this one.

Halloween has Changed Since You Were a Kid
Remember when you went trick-or-treating as a kid, and there was always that one house where a grandmotherly type invited us in to pick our own treats from a table full of lovingly crafted homemade candies, cakes, and cookies? That doesn't happen anymore, since kids aren't allowed to go into stranger's homes, or take any treat that isn't store bought and individually wrapped. Besides, the parents are choosing which houses to visit now anyway. Halloween is still fun for kids today, but it's different.
My latest article for Considerable is up, called 10 ways Halloween has changed since you were a kid. Check it out and share it if you like. And don't get me started on bobbing for apples!

Digital Halloween Decorations
Terrify your neighbors with these digital Halloween decorations!
My latest article for Considerable is a look at consumer-level digital Halloween decorations. It focuses on one product, since that was what is all over YouTube and Instagram. You might be surprised at what an amateur can do with a little help from technology! The post is not accessible from Considerable's front page, which makes it even more important for you to take a look and share on social media -in case you want to make me look good.

It's now officially October, so get ready for me to post horror movies, scary links, and Halloween nonsense. But that's not all that October is. Think back to where you were in October of 1979. Then read October 1979: 14 things that happened 40 years ago this month. It's my latest article for Considerable!

Where were you 40 years ago? As a followup to my article September 1969: 14 things that happened 50 years ago this month, Considerable has now published September 1979: 12 things that happened 40 years ago this month. I did not mention that was the month I got married for the first time. No, the 12 things included are much more interesting!

11 Theories on the True Identity of D.B. Cooper
My second article for Considerable is up! It's called 11 theories on the true identity of D.B. Cooper. You know, the mysterious skyjacker who jumped out of a plane in 1971 and was never seen again. In case you missed it, my first article for them was 10 famous musicians who had very different second careers. If everything goes right, I may became a regular there... which means I could go back to being a full-time blogger! So go give my articles a look, share them, etc. and I will love you forever. In other news, I have taken on a slightly-expanded role again at Neatorama, and I'm also posting occasionally at Geeks Are Sexy.
