A Lego Kinetic Sculpture Tribute to Alex Trebek
Douglas Hughes built a kinetic sculpture of the TV game show Jeopardy! featuring the late host Alex Trebek. Three notable contestants work their buttons while Trebek moves around reading the questions. Add a little audio track from a real Jeopardy! game, and the whole thing comes to life. What does “working at home” mean for a house cat? An invasion of space, for one thing. Self Checkout
Well, there's conundrum. It was an accident, but it did cost the store money. Trying to justify it only leads down a road of more justification. We've all had mistakes that cost us money and gave the store more, but how big does a mistake/crime need to be before we feel obligated to make up for it? This hasn't ever happened to me because 1. Bear Steals Dumpster -Twice
You often hear of bears taking things from dumpsters, but this one just took the whole thing! The Edelweiss Restaurant in Colorado Springs had a security camera trained on the back alley, and Tuesday night one night in 2013 they caught the bear in action. Reaching to the top of the dumpster, the bear backs up and takes the entire unit away! (via Fark)
But then it happened again.
Talk about meals on wheels! There is no information on where the dumpster was found, but the restaurant posted an update on Facebook in which you see the bear returning for more German food on Wednesday night!

Firefighter Adds Reality to TV Firefighting
If you've ever seen a movie built around your own area of expertise, you most likely cringed at the portrayal of your work. Movies and TV shows are made by writers and actors with an eye toward drama and not so much accuracy. The guy running the YouTube channel Fire Department Chronicles used green screen tech to put himself into the action and give the actors a little lesson in what really happens in a fire.
Once again, I am glad that we'll never see a drama about the life of a blogger, because it would be too boring for broadcast. Or even streaming. Fire Department Chronicles has more of these videos about the real work of firefighters and EMTs vs. the pop culture versions. (via reddit)

Deepfake Willie Nelson for Omega Mart
This bonkers ad is rather amusing as a parody of both supermarket ads and deep fake technology. But it's not really a fake ad. It's a teaser for a new immersive art installation now open in Las Vegas from Meow Wolf. Omega Mart is a combination of theme park, virtual reality game, art museum, and shopping. It's an experience in weirdness, let's say. (via reddit)
Dance 10000
To stay healthy and in shape, it is recommended that we take 10,000 steps a day. That may seem like an awful lot of walking and running, but when you do it by dancing, it's more fun and just as healthful. A Brief History of PG-13
There’s no argument that the MPAA ratings system for movies has wandered far afield of what was intended when it was first introduced in 1968. At the time, most movies were rated G and the whole family went to see them. Now, a G-rated movie is pretty much aimed at young children, and PG is almost there. The rating modern movies want is PG-13, the new rating introduced in 1984, so the lucrative teenage market can get into the theater and know they will see the the maximum adult content allowed for them. Godzilla vs. Kong
The two stars that Hollywood can't get out of its mind- Godzilla and King Kong. The newest film to put these two together (like in 1962), Godzilla vs. Kong, is the third Godzilla film of the 21st century, promoted as a sequel to both Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island. This will be the 36th Godzilla movie and the 12th King Kong film. And from the looks of things, they've been growing all this time. Godzilla vs. Kong will hit theaters and HBO Max on March 26. Plowing Snow in the Italian Alps
A snowplow goes to work in South Tyrol. There's no drama, no "wait for it" moment, but you might find this fun. Slothfulness
A young sloth wants to learn how to fly. That seems funny to the other sloths, who don’t want to of anything, as sloths do. It’s kind of funny to us, too, because it’s hard to imagine a sloth ever flapping his arms that fast. But this is a cartoon, by John McGowan, so anything is possible. In fact, it was his graduate thesis project.
This reminds me somewhat of another graduate thesis project in animation about a flightless bird who dreams of flying, but trust me, this one is not nearly as heart-wrenching. (via Daily of the Day)

Betty Furness promotes electrical appliances and utility systems in the mid-50s. It’s much more complicated than it needs to be, but we didn’t really know that until we got transistors and microchips. Still, many of these things made no sense even at the time. Why tout how clean electric heat is when you’re going to burn charcoal in the living room anyway? I’m sure the kids just loved having their rooms combined during the day. A Dog Dragging
